How to choose a carpet to match Christmas Tree
Dec 11,2017 Diamond Carpet
Christmas is a great inspiration for many of us to make some changes to our homes. We want to spruce things up so they look for the holiday season and one of the top things to focus attention on is the living room. Changing the living room carpet is still easily possible before Christmas but how do you pick the right carpet colour – to match your Christmas tree or use other inspiration?
Selecting your décorIt’s true that unless you are using Christmas tree green as a part of your room décor, it isn’t a good idea to match your carpet to your Christmas tree. After all, it is only there for a short period of the year! But the question of selecting the right colour carpet is always a tricky one.
If you are making over the room entirely, then many interior designers recommend choosing the colour of the sofa first because there are fewer options in sofas than almost anything else. Majority of sofa ranges will feature four or five shade options, sometimes less. And if you aren’t changing the sofa, then you already have the first piece in the puzzle.
Pick the carpet colour after the sofa, as you will already have a colour in mind and then finally add the shade of paint that matches beautifully. This is because the paint comes in the greatest range of colours and is the easiest thing to add once you have the colours and patterns of the other main items.
Why neutrals are popular
Neutral carpets remain one of the most popular colour palettes for homes and for good reason. carpet has a big impact on a room and if you choose a really bright colour or vivid pattern, this can seem overwhelming and can dictate any future decorating scheme you may have. Also, carpet can be an expensive item and you don’t want to replace it every few years – by choosing a neutral, you can change the décor of the room and the carpet will still match. Saying that – if there is a carpet colour or pattern that you simply love then go for it – you will still love it in years to come!
The big trends in neutral shades at the moment include earthy shades and stone colourways. This is the popular beige shades but also the warm grey colours carpet. And neutral doesn’t mean boring – cut and loop styles are just one way you can add texture and feature to your neutral shade carpet.
Flecks in a carpet
Another way to bring feature to a plain carpet is to opt for one with flecks of colour rather than a solid, single shade. These are often known as Berber flecks, despite Berber being used to describe a type of looped carpet too.
Typically, the flecks are a darker shade of the same colour that is used in the carpet – say a dark beige in a mid-beige base colour. Flecked carpets are also quite practical. Their pattern is great for hiding those little bits of dirt or lint that inevitably end up on the floor between vacuuming.
There’s still plenty of time to book a new carpet to be fitted in your living room now before the Christmas decorations and the tree are put up. So if you want to have a new look for the festive season, start looking at those colour palettes now!
