A question we are often asked, do I need to prepare the ground before laying artificial grass? Simply put, YES you do!
In fact preparing the ground is one of the most important factors of installing artificial turf, below are a few tips to follow to ensure your fake lawn looks top dollar…
1.Clear The Surface

First you’ll need to remove any existing turf, plants or other vegetation from the area where you’re looking to install artificial grass.
Using a decent shovel remove at least 4 inches of turf and top soil ready for your base material to be applied. Don’t forget to remove any large rocks or roots, which could cause serious problems further down the line.
Make sure your surface is completely smooth, the smoother your surface the better your artificial grass will look!
2.Install a Base Material and Compact The Ground

Installing a base material is vital to maintaining the stability and drainage of your artificial turf.
Evenly spread a high quality aggregate over the desired area before tightly compacting the base using a rake or a plate compactor type tool for the best results.
During this process add a slight gradient to the base to meet and enhance drainage requirements.

Your base material should be as smooth as possible whilst remaining completely solid.

3.Use Weed Spray & a Weed Membrane To Prevent Weed Growth

For added peace of mind apply a high quality weed killer to the area you’re faking. By doing this you’ll reduce the risk of weeds and roots growing under your artificial grass.
With everything in place there’s just one thing you need to do before laying your artificial grass, make sure you install a high quality weed membrane to prevent weeds from growing up through your artificial turf.
